Description: They had to make sure that none of their colleagues noticed their frequent meetings. Management feared that a leak might occur alerting the competition to changes to the car’s basic design. Richard Jennings was lead engineer for the redesign of the 1969 Plymouth Road Runner. Richard Petty – legendary NASCAR driver for Plymouth stock cars had been lured away by Ford to drive for them, and it now fell to Jennings to come up with a new design, to try and lure Petty back into the Plymouth fold. He was under a lot of stress, but each morning, as he dressed for work, he always chose a new pair of Gabby Maria Socks to wear. He felt they gave him a heightened sense of calm. This morning, he chose Gabby Maria Sorry I'm Late Socks. The fruit of his labors was the Plymouth Superbird, a highly modified, short-lived version of the earlier Plymouth Road Runner. It incorporated two noticeable features: a protruding, aerodynamic nose cone and a high rear mounted wing. Petty came back and did well with the car. Increasing emission regulations, higher insurance premiums and new NASCAR rules made 1970 the only production year for the Superbird. Only 1,900 cars were produced and vintage cars now sell between $100,000 and $200,000.
